Sue a Good Samaritan?

So I just read this article in the Reader's Digest about a woman (we'll call her Ann) pulling her friend out of a smoking car after an accident. The woman IN the car (we'll call her Barb) said that she could feel her legs before she was pulled out, but NOT after. She became paralyzed from the waist down. Barb sued Ann who pulled her out of the car.

There is a "Good Samaritan" law that protects EMT's and such from being sued if/when they are working on a patient in good faith, and the patient doesn't make it. So when Ann pulled Barb out of the car, Ann's lawyer explained, she was covered by this Good Samaritan law. He asked for charges to be dismissed and they were.

Barb's lawyer appealed, and Barb was given a sizable settlement.

So the question is, was what Ann did negligible? The part that they didn't mention in the article is the alcohol level of both women. They had been at a bar with friends, and neither Ann nor Barb was driving.

According to the others in both vehicles, Ann was the only one who saw smoke. And "everyone" knows not to move someone with a possible head or neck injury.

First of all, I would argue whether or not "everyone" knows not to move someone with a head or neck injury, never mind that all parties were full of adrenaline and most probably alcohol.

Secondly, I would need to know if the women had been drinking to the point of impairment. If Ann had been drunk, I would say she was negligible, and should be held accountable. If she was NOT, however, I think she should have been exonerated of all charges because she was obviously concerned about her friend being pinned in a burning car.

What would you do? Do situations like this make you think twice about helping someone? If there was a nationwide law that protected "Good Samaritans" from any possibility of lawsuits, would you be more apt to help?

I find this topic both interesting and upsetting. Our country is RIDICULOUSLY litigious. Spill piping hot coffee on your lap because you're clumsy? Sue McDonalds. Get cancer from smoking cigarettes? Sue Philip Morris. Get shot breaking into someone's home to rob them? Sue the homeowner, or the gun company.

My husband saw a bumper sticker that said: "Guns kill people like spoons make you fat." I laughed so hard I about peed my pants. But seriously!

My personal opinion is that you should help anyone you can, and trust that God will protect you from any bogus consequences. What a horrible place it would be to live where no one would help another for fear of prosecution. Shameful.

Thanksgiving Ordered by Congress?

Following the Revolutionary War, the Continental Congress recognized the need to give thanks for delivering the country from war and into independence. Congress issued a proclamation on October 11, 1782:

How wonderful! Can you imagine if THIS is the kind of Congress we had today? What could be possible? These past elections in November shook up the system, which is a good start. But it's only a start. Keep on keeping on! Don't let up on your Congressmen, new or old. Make your voice known.

Sarah Palin

Ya know what? I LIKE Sarah Palin. I LIKE her daughter Bristol. Can she dance as well as some of the other people? No. Is she more likable? Obviously. I can't believe that the media is beating her up the way they are over a DANCE show for crying out loud. She didn't ask to be put up (in the elmination show) against Brandi (who, yes, she could do some dancin', but I never felt connected to her. Too much drama.). The executive producer decides who goes up against whom. They could have put Jennifer and Brandi against each other. Anyway...I digress. It just ticks me off.

I also like her new show, Sarah Palin's Alaska. Alaska is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. If it wasn't for the thousands-of-miles-from-nowhere-dark-24-hours-a-day-most-of-the-year thing, I'd move there. I doubt I'd ever be too hot!

One thing I like about Sarah Palin is that while she is obviously a power player, she is also a Christian. She has a wonderful relationship with her husband, and she defers to him as the head of her household. She loves her family and defends them.

Another thing I love about her is that she speaks her mind. Woman after my own heart on that one. Not afraid to call a duck a duck. Is she eloquent? Not inasmuch as other orators of our time. But she gets the point across, she isn't afraid to stand up for what she believes in, and she doesn't back down. She's as at home in a kayak in Alaska, or skeet shooting, as she is in a TV studio or taking care of her youngest baby with Downs Syndrome.

I think she takes such a beating BECAUSE she is a strong woman...on the RIGHT. If she were a liberal, the media would LOVE her instead of crucify her. Some person (I have 100 other things I'd like to call him) actually moved in NEXT door to the Palin's in Alaska to get dirt to write a book about her.

Todd Palin built a 14 foot fence between the two homes. I love it! This guy just sits outside (in ALASKA mind you) reading the newspaper trying to be all nonchalant. Jackwagon.

So I say carry on, Mrs. Palin. Kick some butt, take some names, and NEVER back down.

This Is The Country OBAMA Supports

The following is an article from Israel Today Magazine, written by Ryan Jones:

"A 50-year-old man from the eastern Jerusalem village of Issawiya tried to stab a young Jewish woman at the nearby Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital in order to prove to his friends that he is a good Palestinian Arab.

Police said the man followed the young woman for some distance before pulling out a large kitchen knife and running toward her. Fortunately, the young woman reached the guard station at the hospital entrance before her would-be assailant reached her.

After being taken in for questioning, the man admitted that he wanted to kill a Jew in order to prove to his friends that he was not collaborating or sympathizing with Israel.

Are you KIDDING me? The illustrious American President supports terrorism. I mean, if it walks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck.

Obama has strong Muslim ties. My personal belief is that he IS Muslim. Muslims MUST adhere strictly to the Qu'ran. The Qu'ran makes it very clear that anyone who is not Muslim must be converted or killed, especially Jews and Christians. {waddle}

Obama clearly supports a Palestinian state, thereby being in DIRECT disobedience to God, Whose chosen people are Israel. Ergo, you could reasonably argue that Obama supports terrorism, or at the VERY least, genocide. {quack}

I was so stunned to read this article; to be frank, it was the age of the offender! The would-be attacker is 50 years old! This isn't some 20 year old hot-head wanna-be trying to join a gang. This is a 50 year old man! Probably established in life, maybe successful, married, with children... Yet is was SO important to him that his friends believe he was a "good Arab" (a good Muslim), that he was willing to KILL a woman.

Keep praying. For our President. For our country. For Israel. It is imperative we are on the Right side of this battle. It will have eternal consequences.

A Felon In Office? Getting A Good Neighbor Award?

All right folks. I need your input on this one.

On our ballot a few weeks ago, we had to vote yes or no as to whether or not it should be possible for a convicted felon to hold government office. I can't remember if it was for my county or state. Regardless: should this not be a no-brainer?? A convicted felon in government office? I mean, I feel like most politicians are crooks anyway, but to be convicted, by a jury of your peers, and be still able to run for office? No freakin' way.

The next one gives me a TINY hesitation because...well...here's the thing. A guy was given a Good Neighbor Award in Albion, Michigan. He's a high school band director. He's also a convicted sex offender. In 1999, a 10 year old girl accused him of touching her inappropriately. Although this guy pleaded no contest, he went to jail, and felt the need to defend himself. Ken Fourn says, “If I had any inkling that it would disturb people that I received an award for helping out with the community band I never would have accepted it.” (wwmt.com)

Really? Or would you never have accepted it if you knew your ugly past would erupt? The Chamber of Commerce in Albion,who gave him this award, stand behind Mr. Fourn as a married man of 30 years who has done great things for the community.

"'One of my students took offense to a maneuver that I use to teach breathing,” said Fourn. Fourn says that student was a ten-year-old girl. “In hindsight the young lady probably was offended by the way I touched her,” said Fourn. “I had no idea that it would cause such a firestorm.'" (wwmt.com)

M'kay. I played in band. Ain't NO breathing technique for ANY instrument that requires a 50+ man touching a 10 year old girl in ANY way, shape, form or fashion.

Albion stands behind its decision and will not retract the award, however, they will "in the future will do more research before handing out awards." (wwmt.com)

So what do you think? Should it be a carte blanche NO WAY? Should it depend on the when the offense happened and the degree to which it happened?

As a Christian, I believe that God can help ANY one conquer ANY thing. And that includes sexual perversion. I believe in forgiveness. However, almost every research study you check says that sex offenders have the highest recidivism rate among all criminals. It's not impossible to be "cured" but it would seriously take the Divine Hand of God to remove it.

So as a safety precaution, I guess I would err on the side of caution. Fair or not, my concern would be for any children involved in any way. If it came down to black and white yes or no (should registered, convicted sex offenders to eligible for community or state awards?) I would have to say no. What about you?

Washington, Lincoln, and OBAMA???

Okay. I know this is silly. I know people are probably shaking their heads at my indignance at such a goofy thing. It's only a Chia Pet.

But I'm sorry. There are three Presidents made into Chia Pets, and they are Washington, Lincoln and Obama??? How they can even mention those three men in the same sentence is beyond my realm of comprehension.

George Washington: fearless leader. Considered the Father of America. Unanimously chosen as both Commander-in-Chief of the Army as well as President of the United States. King George III of England remarked he was "the greatest character of the age." (libertykids.com)

Abraham Lincoln: considered by some to be the best president of all. Ended slavery. Was known as "Honest Abe." Said, "With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation's wounds, to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow and his orphan - to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations."

Barak Obama: Supports Iran over Israel. Supports illegal immigrants over Americans. Bowed to the king of Saudi Arabia. Considered worst president of all time by many, even worse than Jimmy Carter. Supports Islam over Christianity. In just 2 years of his presidency, unemployment went up 2.1 percent. The national debt went from $10 trillion to $12 trillion.

Obama has: "allowed the Russians to sponsor an uprising in Kyrgyzstan that resulted in the removal of a U.S. airbase. He has lent legitimacy to an Islamist Turkish government and sold American debt to a communist Chinese government that supports North Korea." (www.townhall.com)

Now I know it may just be a Chia Pet. I know Chia Pets have been made fun of and are notorious white elephant gifts. But even the mere mention of Obama in the same breath as two of the greatest men of all time...well I just couldn't handle that.

The only thing an Obama Chia Pet would be good for is target practice.

Celebrating?

One thing I am for sure ridiculously happy about it the exit of Nancy Polosi. Oh, that woman. She got on every nerve I had. I'm not sure if she ever had one of her own ideas come out of her brain. I think she was primed well. She was also egregiously annoying.

So last night the Rebuplicans took control back of the house. The Dems held on to the Senate, but barely. Michigan got a new Republican Governor, Attorney General and Secretary of State.

I'm not really a Republican anymore, but it is certainly the lesser of two evils. You'll never meet a former Republican Socialist...(well not without a lobotomy anyway); ergo, the lesser of two evils.

I'm THRILLED that the Tea Part movement took 3 elections last night. I would probably lean closer to the Libertarian side of the parties, but I didn't feel like they had enough momentum to carry Michigan, and I certainly didn't want the Democrats to win!

I'm not sure what will be accomplished for this House and Senate under THIS President, but I know Obama will no longer be able to have "his way" as he has in the in the last 2 years. He's the kind of person who makes you think is somethings are very good ideas, and then you end up crippled.

I know I put this on facebook already but I just can't help it: To Ms. Pelosi: Na-na-na- na, Na-na-na-na, Hey Hey Hey, GOOD BYE!!!!!

VOTE!!!


Okay people. Make SURE you go out and vote tomorrow!! We have the power to change up a LOT of things in the Senate and the House. I'm not much more of a fan of Republicans than I am Democrats right now, but at least with a Republican controlled House and/or Senate, Obama cannot keep running amok in America!

PLEASE do not go into this election uninformed. It is a chance for REAL CHANGE in America. It's a pretty sure bet that Obama will NOT will reelection, if the approval rate means anything. The danger is in what damage he can do between now and then. Two years down, two to go. And in my opinion, he's made enough messes already!


So please. Vote. It is not only a wonderful right and privilege, fought and bled and died for; it is a duty. Especially if you are a Christian. You have an obligation to God and country to participate in the freedom that separates America from many, many other countries. Don't take your rights for granted! Exercise them!
